Hannu Toivonen stopped 25-of-27 shots through overtime and all five shooters faced in a shootout to notch the win for the Peoria Rivermen over rival Quad City Flames on Friday night at Carver Arena before 3,717 fans.

Tim Hambly got the Flames on the board first, wristing a shot over the shoulder of Toivonen during a five-on-three power play just 2:39 into the opening frame.

Mike Glumac responded by one-timing a pass from Jean-Guy Trudel past Matt Keetley in the Flames' net at 15:40 to tie the game with a power play goal. Nicholas Drazenovic also picked up a helper in his first game of the season for the Rivermen.

No scoring in the second period led to an exciting third. Jeff Woywitka snapped a shot over the shoulder of Keetley from 20-feet out on the left wing to give Peoria the lead at 3:46 from Trent Whitfield and Charles Linglet. But Quad City would rally to tie the game, as Derek Couture shoveled home a loose puck in front of Toivonen at 13:32 to force overtime.

Each team had quality scoring chances in overtime, but neither side could manage the game-winner. Instead the game went to a shootout, where Jean-Guy Trudel was the only player to score in round four for Peoria. Trudel's snap shot past the glove side of Keetley made the hometown crowd buzz, and Toivonen sealed the win with his fifth save in as many attempts.

Peoria finished the game 1-for-8 on the power play while Quad City went 1-for-5. The game marked the first time this season Peoria has given up a man-advantage marker.

Peoria will next play the Chicago Wolves on Sunday, October 21 at 3 pm. It's PJ Star/Fun on the Run Family Fun Day on Sunday! One dollar hot dogs, Cokes, and bags of chips from 2-3 pm, along with face painting, inflatables, Rivermen Mascots, and more!
