AHL Peoria Rivermen

Rivermen Host Flames at 7 pm

October 19, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Quad City Flames head to Peoria to battle the Rivermen tonight at 7 pm, with a pre-game blood drive taking place at the Peoria Civic Center called BLEEDING BLUE FOR WENDY PLEAU.

Tonight's Game

The Flames and Rivermen hook up for the second of ten games between the two teams this season, with Peoria holding a 1-0 edge and a 17-2-2 record in the series all-time. Thanks to Martin Kariya's two goals and multiple-point games from Julian Talbot and Charles Linglet, the Rivermen notched a 4-2 win in the first contest of the year staged back on Sunday, October 7 in Quad City. Marek Schwarz made 27 saves in the win for the Rivermen.

For tonight, the Rivermen will feature a new face in net as the St. Louis Blues have assigned goaltender Hannu Toivonen to the team on a conditioning assignment. Acquired in a trade this summer with the Boston Bruins, Toivonen has appeared in only one game for St. Louis, stopping seven shots in relief to earn the win on Oct. 7 at Los Angeles. He will wear #1 and be in uniform this evening for the Rivermen.

Quad City looks to end a two-game slide, coming in off a 4-2 loss to Milwaukee in the club's first road game last Friday night. Tim Hambly scored both Flames goals but the Admirals proved too strong for the Flames, and Pekka Rinne was solid in net for Milwaukee, making 15 third-period saves to backstop his team to the win.

The Flames will have Matt Keetley back in uniform for tonight's game after he was recalled to the Calgary Flames last week for three games. Keetley did not see any game action while with Calgary and has posted a 1-1-0 record with a 2.52 GAA and .900 save percentage for Quad City this year.

BLEEDING BLUE FOR WENDY PLEAU

Named in honor of St. Louis Blues general manager Larry Pleau's wife Wendy, who is currently battling cancer, BLEEDING BLUE FOR WENDY PLEAU was born from people's desire to help. When Wendy was diagnosed with cancer, people began asking what they could do to help. From that the idea was born to donate blood.

The Blues held a blood drive just outside of Wendy's hospital window, much to her surprise, back on September 21. Over 40 Blues fans, staff, and players donated blood while Wendy watched out her window and waved to the people below her. Now the Rivermen are doing their part as an extension of the Blues family this Friday.

For every fan who donates blood on the 19th, the team will give them a voucher for any Rivermen game this season. In addition to the voucher, donors will be entered into a drawing to win an autographed St. Louis Blues jersey.

Let's work together to bring in a "Win for Wendy" and show her how she is a part of our extended Rivermen family! Schedule your appointment ahead of time by calling Kim Grierson at (309) 636-4434 or going to www.givebloodgivelife.org.

Donations will be accepted at the Peoria Civic Center from 3:30 - 7:30 pm on Friday. There will be signage to direct you to the collection site. Two people can donate blood for every 15 minutes, so please call for the best possible appointment time.

The next Rivermen home games are Friday, October 19 at 7 pm against the Quad City Flames, and Sunday, October 21 versus the Chicago Wolves, a 3 pm matinee. Tickets are on sale now through the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, through all TicketMaster outlets, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
