Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, Ill. (October 24, 2009) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the St. Louis Blues have reassigned defenseman T.J. Fast and left wing Anthony Peluso to Peoria from the Blues ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces. In a separate transaction, the Rivermen have signed goaltender Andrew Martin to a professional tryout contract.
Fast, 22, has played four games with the Aces so far this season and has recorded one assist and two penalty minutes. Last year, the rookie defenseman played in 46 games with Peoria and registered five points (1g, 4a) and 12 penalty minutes. He finished the year with regular season games in Alaska before helping the team to the Kelly Cup Finals with five assists in 18 postseason games.
The native of Calgary, Alberta was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (#60 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by St. Louis in a trade on June 4, 2008 in exchange for the Blues' fifth round choice in the 2009 draft.
Peluso, 20, appeared in one game with the Rivermen before being reassigned to Alaska. He recorded one fighting major in his game against Rockford on Oct. 4. In five games with the Aces, the rookie from North York, ON has one assist and 15 penalty minutes.
The 6-3, 235-pound winger was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round (#160 overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry draft.
Martin, 26, has spent the majority of his four-year professional career playing in the Central Hockey League. He is currently a member of the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the International Hockey League. In his only game of the year, Martin allowed four goals on 14 shots in 34 minutes of relief work against Muskegon on Oct. 17.
Last season, Martin split time between New Mexico and Laredo in the CHL and was 16-17-1 with a 3.43 GAA and a 0.896 save percentage. Born in Camberley, England, Martin played his collegiate hockey at Fairfield University (2001-02) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2003-05).
Chaske Spencer from Twilight will appear and sign autographs at the Rivermen game on Saturday as Peoria welcomes Rockford to town at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Peoria Civic Center box office, by calling the Rivermen office at 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
