Aeros Erase 2-0 Deficit, Defeat Rampage 3-2 in OT

SAN ANTONIO - RW Danny Irmen put the Aeros on the board with 5:03 remaining in regulation then scored the game winning goal 3:40 into overtime as the Aeros erased a 2-0 deficit in the final 5:03 to defeat the Rampage 3-2 in overtime Saturday night in front of 5,360 at AT&T Center. Irmen was credited with the game-winning goal after Rampage D Shaun Heshka's cross-ice pass deflected off G Josh Tordjman (2-1-0) and into the net for an own goal. RW Robbie Earl also scored and G Wade Dubielewicz (1-2-0) made 28 saves in his first win of the season.

The teams played to a scoreless but physical first period. LW Matt Kassian and Rampage forward Francis Lessard dropped the gloves 8:24 in to the opening frame. The Rampage tacked on two minor penalties before period's end, resulting in two Aeros power plays; however, Houston was unable to convert on both occasions. Houston led in shots on goal 11-5 through the opening 20 minutes.

The Aeros again struggled in the middle frame as Rampage C Kevin Porter beat Dubielewicz low glove side for the goal. RW Chad Kolarik and D Brett Festerling were credited with the helpers. The Aeros would again finish the second period without a goal going 0-for-3 on the power play in the process.

The Rampage jumped out to a two goal lead 1:21 into the third period, but the Aeros roared back in the waning minutes. At 14:57, with Dubielewicz on the bench for the extra attacker, Irmen tipped home his second of the year to cut the San Antonio lead in half. Then, 26 seconds later, Earl knotted the game off a feed from C Peter Zingoni that would ultimately force overtime and set up Irmen's game-winning goal.

Tordjman finished with 40 saves on the night for San Antonio, the Aeros outshot San Antonio 43-30. Houston was 0-for-5 on the power play and held San Antonio scoreless on their only man advantage. There were four fights on the evening and the teams combined for 64 penalty minutes.

The Aeros and Rampage are back at it again tomorrow night in San Antonio. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The game can be heard in its entirety through ahllive.com and in-progress on 1070 AM KNTH beginning at 5:00 p.m.
