Rockford IceHogs News Release
Peoria, Ill.- For two periods on Saturday the Rockford IceHogs and Peoria Rivermen went back and forth. But a three goal third period by Peoria broke open a 2-2 game and sent Rockford home 5-2 losers.
Peoria grabbed the only goal in the first period, moments after their only power play of the frame expired. Winger Chris Porter redirected a Jonas Junland shot past Corey Crawford at 13:05 for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Rockford tied it in the second frame at 3:59. Jack Skille crashed the goal, collided with Ben Bishop and set up Mark Cullen who buried his fifth goal of the season. Kyle Greentree also helped on the goal.
Then at 9:51 Peoria took the lead back. Porter sent a centering pass to Aaron Palushaj who jammed in his first goal of the year under Crawford. Junland was also credited with an assist.
Late in the second frame Rockford would tie it once again. Cullen fed Skille up the right wall and the winger would beat Bishop short side for his second goal of the season at 19:46. Richard Petiot picked up an assist as well.
Peoria began the third period barrage when Porter shelved his second goal of the night after Rockford failed to clean out the crease. Porter's marker was assisted by Cam Paddock at 6:15 of the third period.
Lars Eller added some insurance at 15:19 when he tipped in a Nicolas Drazenovic pass making it 4-2 before Junland finished the scoring with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 19:30.
Crawford's 36 saves weren't enough on Saturday as he was tagged with the loss. Bishop made 22 saves in the win. Rockford held Peoria to 1-7 on the power play but failed to convert on four power play chances of their own.
