
Hamilton slips by Texas with 2-1 shootout win

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars were defeated by the Hamilton Bulldogs 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night in front of 4,466 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Hamilton goalie Curtis Sanford picked up the win, stopping 24 in regulation and four of five in the shootout. Despite making 37 saves in regulation, Texas goalie Matt Climie suffered the loss after allowing two goals on five shootout attempts. Hamilton forward Mathieu Darche and Texas defenseman Garret Stafford each scored in regulation. Texas will travel to San Antonio for a 7:00 pm game on Friday, October 30th.
Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the first period, scoring just past the midway point of the opening frame. Defenseman Matt Carle blasted a slap shot to the Texas net. Stars' goalie Matt Clime stopped the puck, but was unable to control the rebound. Hamilton Captain Mathieu Darche put in the rebound for his fifth goal of the season at 13:04 for the 1-0 Bulldogs' lead after one period of play. Hamilton outshot Texas 17-4 in the opening period.
In the second period, Texas took advantage of a five-on-three power play late in the middle stanza. Defenseman Garrett Stafford ripped a slapshot through traffic and into the back of the Hamilton net at 17:41. Mathieu Beaudoin and Aaron Gagnon set up Stafford's second goal of the year, tying the game 1-1. Texas outshot Hamilton 11-6 in the second period.
The two teams skated to a scoreless third period and overtime, forcing a shootout. Hamilton goalie Curtis Sanford stopped four of five shootout attempts, while Texas goalie Matt Climie stopped three of five to take the loss. Stars' defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy scored the lone Texas shootout goal.
Texas will travel to San Antonio on Friday, October 30th. The Stars return home Saturday, October 31st to host the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the Cedar Park Center is providing an All-You-Can-Eat special for $20.00, including a hockey ticket, hot dogs, nachos, peanuts and soft drinks. The Texas Stars will have its first Autograph Night on Sunday, November 1st when they take on the Houston Aeros at 5:00 pm. The first 2,000 fans will receive a team poster.
