
RiverKings Wrap up Exhibition Season Tonight

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings will wrap up its exhibition season tonight with a game against the IceMen in Evansville, Indiana. Game time at the Swonder Ice Arena will be at 7:05 PM. Broadcast coverage of the game will be done by the Flagship Station of the RiverKings, Sports 56, WHBQ-AM. The Voice of the RiverKings Bob Bakken will describe the action tonight, starting with the Pre-Game Report at 6:50 PM. There will be no webcasting of the game this evening from CHL-TV, however an audio stream of the broadcast can be found at www.sports56whbq.com. Mississippi enters tonight's game with a pre-season record of 1-1-0, after splitting a two-game set this weekend with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
Saturday evening, the RiverKings had to wait for nearly an hour to start their game with the Mudbugs, after the Bossier-Shreveport bus sustained a flat tire and arrived late to the DeSoto Civic Center. Following the delay, Mississippi won a 3-2 shootout decision over the Mudbugs. Darrell Stoddard and Ryan Kretzer scored goals in regulation time for the RiverKings, and Jeff Christian's goal in the sixth round of the shootout was the game winner. Larry Sterling posted the victory in goal with a 29 save performance. Mississippi was 1-for-10 on the power play and stopped both of Bossier-Shreveport's power play chances.
Sunday afternoon, Bossier-Shreveport shut out the RiverKings 2-0 in the second game of the weekend set. Brian Foster faced only 15 RiverKings shots in the goaltending victory for the Mudbugs. While being tagged with the loss, Kyle McNulty stopped 34 Mudbugs' shot on goal for Mississippi. The RiverKings were 0-for-3 on the power play, Bossier-Shreveport was 1-for-5.
The 2010-2011 CHL regular season for the RiverKings will begin Friday, October 15th in a 7:05 PM game at Bossier-Shreveport. The home opener for the RiverKings will come the following night, Saturday, October 16th in a 7:05 PM game, also against Bossier-Shreveport at the DeSoto Civic Center.
RIVERKINGS EXTRAS...
Mississippi has 25 players on its pre-season roster going into tonight's final exhibition game. The group must be culled down to the 19 player maximum limit by Thursday afternoon, October 14th.
The RiverKings will hope to improve its power play results tonight, as Mississippi is 1-for-14 on the power play through two games of the pre-season. Darrell Stoddard has scored the only power play goal for the RiverKings thus far; it was the first goal of Saturday's shootout victory over Bossier-Shreveport. Mississippi's penalty kill in the pre-season is at 85.71% (1-for-7) and the RiverKings have allowed one shorthanded goal. Evansville is the only CHL team to allow more pre-season shorthanded goals (2).
Mississippi has spent 25 minutes in the sin bin thus far, the least among Berry Conference teams. By contrast, Odessa has been tagged with 82 penalty minutes to lead the Berry Conference and Colorado of the Turner Conference has posted 111 PIMS to lead all CHL squads.
