RiverKings Stuff Mudbugs for Ninth Straight Win

(Bossier City, LA) -- The win streak is now nine for the Mississippi RiverKings, who scored three times in the third period to break open a 1-1 tie and beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-1 Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana. With the win, the RiverKings opened a five-point lead on the Mudbugs in the Northeast Division and an eight-point margin on third place Oklahoma City, who lost at Tulsa Tuesday evening.

First period scoring had Bossier-Shreveport scoring first with a power play goal from Travis Clayton, his 18th goal of the year at 7:05 for a 1-0 lead. The RiverKings tied the game with their own power play goal, this one from Andrew Lackner at 18:22 for a 1-1 tie at the first intermission.

There was no scoring in the second period, but the RiverKings broke the game open with three goals in the final frame. Joe Markusen scored the eventual game-winning goal at 2:25 of the period. Matt Summers followed with a deflection of a centering play that came off Mudbug Tyrel Lucas into the net for a goal at 8:17. Dallas Steward finished the scoring with his eighth goal of the year at 10:47.

Mississippi and Bossier-Shreveport were both 1-for-6 on the power play while the RiverKings out shot the Mudbugs by a 47-22 margin. Winning goaltender Kevin Beech won his seventh straight game with a 21-save effort, while losing goaltender Jon Horrell made 43 saves and allowed four goals.

The RiverKings next play the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at the BOK Center in Tulsa, starting at 7:35 PM, the first of three games in three days to complete the road swing. Mississippi returns home to play Bossier-Shreveport in a two-game home series March 13th and 14th at 7:05 PM each night in the DeSoto Civic Center.
