Beech Wins Monthly Goalie Award Again

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League have announced that goaltender Kevin Beech has been named the Sher-Wood/CHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of February.

This is the second straight month that Beech has been named league goaltender of the month, earning the award in January after going 8-2-2 for that time period. He has also been named league goaltender of the week on two occasions this season, the last time coming on Janurary 13th.

In February, the Brantford, Ontario native won nine of ten games (9-0-1) at the crease for the Northeast Division-leading RiverKings, who were 11-0-1 for the month. Beech forged a 2.55 goals-against-average and had a save percentage of .908.

Kevin won three games in a row to start the month, then took his only loss of the month in a 4-3 shootout decision to Rocky Mountain at Mississippi on February 10th. Beech then finished the month with a six-game winning streak, which included three wins against Northern Conference leader Colorado (two of them away from home) and a 5-4 overtime victory last Friday night in Oklahoma City. The six-game winning streak equals his longest winning streak of the regular season.

For the season, the 6-foot-3, 170-pound goaltender has won 30 games (30-10-3), has a 2.40 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .908. Beech leads the Central Hockey League in games played (43), minutes played (2601), wins (30), and shutouts (3). Beech is also fourth in goals-against-average (2.40) and is tied for seventh in the league in save percentage (.908).

Mississippi takes on division rival Bossier-Shreveport on the road tonight in their next game, starting at 7:05 PM. Coverage of tonight's game from Bossier City, Louisiana begins at 6:50 PM with Bob Bakken providing the play-by-play on Sports 56, WHBQ (560-AM) and on CHL-TV with your high-speed Internet connection.
