RiverKings Stop Blazers in Saturday Tilt

The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Oklahoma City Blazers 3-2 on Saturday night, handing the Blazers their first loss in regulation time this year. Mississippi stopped a two-game losing streak and evened their record at 6-6-0 for the year, while the Northeast Division-leading Blazers saw their record fall to 9-1-2.

Jeff Alcombrack opened the scoring for the RiverKings, taking advantage of a fallen Oklahoma City defender and beating goaltender Andy Franck for his third goal of the season, unassisted at 8:12 of the first period.

Oklahoma City answered with a power play goal from Oriel McHugh, assisted by Bill Vandermeer and Chad Hinz at 18:34 for a 1-1 tie after twenty minutes of action.

In the second period, Bobby Chaumont beat Franck for a power play goal, assisted by Louis Dumont and Alcombrack at 2:32 for a 2-1 RiverKing lead.

But, Oklahoma City answered again as Brian Passmore scored his fourth goal of the season, a power play goal assisted by Cam Douell and Robin Gomez at 16:31 for a 2-2 tie after two periods of play.

Chaumont scored the game-winning goal at 2:57 of the final frame, assisted by Andrew Lackner and Matt Summers for a 3-2 lead, which became the final score.

Oklahoma City outshot the RiverKings 23-21 for the game. Mississippi scored once in seven power play chances, while the Blazers went 2-for-9 with the man advantage.

Mississippi returns to action at home on Tuesday night, playing host to the Tulsa Oilers in a 7:05 PM contest at the DeSoto Civic Center.
