Rage's Three-Goal First Stands-up

Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Odessa, Texas - The Rocky Mountain Rage concluded a four-game road trip tonight with a 3-2 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes at the Ector County Coliseum behind 28 saves from goaltender Marty Magers.

Despite an arduous, 17-hour trek from Albuquerque to Odessa that involved the team's bus breaking down about 30 miles outside of Roswell, N.M., the Rage skated with high energy in the first period. David Morelli, Aaron Davis, and Scott Wray - all of whom scored in last night's 5-2 win over the New Mexico Scorpions - each found the back of the net to give the club a 3-0 lead through the opening 20 minutes. In the end, it would be all the scoring the team would need.

The second period featured a set of three consecutive power plays for both clubs, which dictated control of the action. The Jackalopes' three straight chances occurred in the first half of the frame. They ended up converting on a five-on-three at 6:21 when Jeff Pierce fired a wrist shot through a screen to get his team on the board. The Rage controlled the second half of the period with their three chances, but they could not re-establish a three-goal margin and headed to the third leading 3-1.

Magers stood on his head at times in the final frame, denying Odessa's Dominic Leveille in particular on several point-blank opportunities to keep Rocky Mountain's two-goal edge intact. Leveille did set-up the Jacks' second goal with 1:27 remaining and the goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker, though, as Brian Swiniarski's goal off a cross-crease pass made things very interesting in the waning moments. But Magers and the defenders in front of him held on for the 3-2 win.

The victory marks the Rage's first two-game winning streak of the season as they went 2-1-1 on the road trip. They are now 3-7-1 this season with seven points in the Northwest Division standings.

Rocky Mountain now returns home to Broomfield Event Center on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Rapid City Rush, respectively.
