Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX - The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League shutout the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-0, in front of 4,653 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Sebastien Centomo picked up his seventeenth professional shutout, and his first as a Buck as he set aside all 30 Mudbugs shots. The Bucks won their third straight game to improve to 8-4 (16pts), and move into first place in the Southern Conference.
Rick Kozak had one goal and one assist, and Jeff Bes handed out two helpers to lead the Bucks offensively. Bes now has 300 career assists as a Buck.
The Bucks came out of the lockerroom on fire, scoring three first period goals in the first 7:42 to take a 3-0 lead.
Laredo (6-2 at home) struck first on the power-play just 1:55 into the game, as Rick Kozak rocketed a slap shot from the high slot past Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll. The strike was Kozak's third of the season, with Adam Rivet (5) and Jeff Bes (16) picking up assists.
The Bucks increased their lead to 2-0 as they scored again on the power-play, just 6:16 into the game. Bucks rookie Devin Featherstone scored his first professional goal, as he sent a laser slap shot from the right point past Carroll. Kozak (3) picked up the helper.
Laredo took a 3-0 lead 7:42 into the game when Bes picked up a loose puck behind the Mudbugs net, and found a streaking Darryl Smith in the slot. Smith then whipped a snap shot past Carroll. The goal was Smith's eighth of the campaign.
The Bucks outshot the Mudbugs (8-3-1) 18-8 in the first 20 minutes.
Neither team could light the lamp in a scoreless second period. However, the second period was filled with penalties, as the Bucks were whistled for 12 mintues, and the Mudbugs spent four minutes in the box.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 13-6.
The Bucks closed out the scoring as they struck for their third power-play goal of the night 6:47 into the third period. Jason Dixon re-directed a Serge Dube shot in front of Carroll, to pick up his fifth goal of the campaign to make it 4-0 Laredo.
Laredo was outshot by Bossier 30-28.
Carroll took the loss in net for the Mudbugs as he stopped 24 of 28 shots.
The Bucks continue their season-high seven game home stand next week, when they host Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, and Amarillo on Saturday at the LEC. Group tickets start at $10. There is no parking charge, and come enjoy the "One Buck Dollar Menu".
