Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Rio Rancho, N.M. - Behind 37 saves from goaltender Scott Reid and goals from five different individuals, the Rocky Mountain Rage captured their first road win of the season in a 5-2 decision over the New Mexico Scorpions at the Santa Ana Star Center.

The effort also marked the franchise's first-ever victory on New Mexico's home ice following six defeats at the Star Center the past two seasons.

After the teams skated to a scoreless draw in the first, the Rage's Colt King set-up David Morelli for the latter's third of the year at 3:13 of the second to open the scoring. Daymen Rycroft then tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season off the rush on the power play to give Rocky Mountain a 2-0 edge. The club's penalty kill thwarted a five-on-three soon thereafter to keep its 2-0 lead intact through 40 minutes.

Tyler Butler made it a 3-0 game when he scored the eventual game-winner off a wrist shot through traffic from the point at 7:33 of the third on the power play. The Scorpions finally spoiled Reid's shutout bid in the game's last five minutes after Jamie Herrington potted a rebound at 15:03. But Rocky Mountain snuffed out any possible Scorpions momentum 31 seconds later as Brent Cullaton fed Aaron Davis for his first goal in a Rage sweater to reestablish the three-goal margin. New Mexico again climbed within two off the stick of Sam Bowles at 17:43 with the goaltender pulled, but Scott Wray iced the victory with an empty-netter at 18:33.

While Rocky Mountain remains in fourth place in the Northwest Division with a record of 2-7-1 and five points, the club did make up ground on the entire division with the win in New Mexico as Colorado, Rapid City, and Wichita all lost their respective games this evening.

The Rage conclude a four-game road trip tomorrow night when the team travels to face the Odessa Jackalopes. Fans can tune-in to ESPN Radio 1600 for all the play-by-play action beginning at 5:55 p.m. MST. Live audio and video streaming will also be carried on the CHL Network at www.rockymountainrage.com.

Rocky Mountain then returns home to Broomfield Event Center on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Rapid City Rush, respectively.
