[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions dropped their fifth straight home game with a 5-3 loss to Rocky Mountain. In was the Rage's first franchise win in the Santa Ana Star Center.
After a scoreless first period, Rocky Mountain tallied two goals in the second. David Morelli found room in front of the Scorps net and scored his third goal of the season. On the power play Daymen Rycroft's wrist shot was tucked just under the cross bar, giving the Rage a 2-0 lead.
The scoring picked up in the third period as the teams combined for five goals. The Rage grabbed their second power play goal of the night as Tyler Butler scored his second goal of the season.
New Mexico lit the lamp at the 15:03 mark as Jamie Herrington collected a rebound and slid it past goaltender Scott Reid. Less then a minute later, Aaron Davis received a back door pass from Brent Cullaton and pushed the Rocky Mountain lead back to three.
Once again the Scorps drew close as Sam Bowles tipped in a power play goal. The Rage answered 50-seconds later as Scott Wray put in an empty net goal, sealing the victory.
Tomorrow New Mexico travels to Texas to face the Brahmas. The game starts at 6:05 p.m. and can be heard on 1050 KTBL or seen for free on the CHL Network. The Scorpions host Colorado on Wednesday, November 19th, with a $1 soda special all game long.
The annual Salute to the Military Night, presented by the U.S. Army, is just around the corner. On Saturday, November 22nd the Scorpions will honor all those who are currently serving and have served our great country. Military tickets are only $10 by calling (505) 881-PUCK.
Special jerseys will be worn and auctioned off live after the game. The auction will benefit the ALS Association of New Mexico and the Rob Guinn Foundation.
