RiverKings beat Steelhounds 3-2

January 11, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Ryan Held scored a pivotal unassisted shorthanded goal in the second period to propel the Mississippi RiverKings over the Youngstown SteelHounds 3-2 tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Held's 11th goal of the season with 9:37 left in the second gave the RiverKings (19-12-1) a 2-1 lead. His goal swung momentum back in his team's favor after it failed to score on a two-minute two-man advantage earlier in the period.

The RiverKings got a goal in the third period from Zach Pearson. His third of the season at 4:17 on the power play proved large, as did a penalty shot save from Sebastien Centomo midway through the third. Centomo's stop on Kevin Jarman kept the RiverKings in front by two.

The SteelHounds (20-10-2) did make it a one-goal game again with 5:01 remaining, as Mark Johnson crashed the net for his third goal of the year. However, the RiverKings rode out the SteelHounds' storm to end their six-game losing streak and earn their first win in 2008.

Eric Przepiorka scored his 16th of the season 7:13 into the contest to give the SteelHounds a 1-0. Louis Dumont slammed home his eighth of the season at 10:22 to tie the game for the RiverKings.

Centomo made 31 saves for the RiverKings, who went one for eight on the power play. Andy Franck also made 31 saves for the SteelHounds, who did not score on the power play in six tries.

The two teams get back at it again tomorrow night at the DCC at 7:05 p.m. While the game will not air on radio, fans can listen to the game on www.radiopig.com and/or watch it on www.nifty-tv.com/chl.
