Bucks leash 'Dogs in SO 6-5

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League came from behind to beat the Arizona Sundogs 6-5 in a shootout in front of 4,160 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center Friday night.

The Bucks have now won two in a row, and eight out of their last nine games to improve to 26-8-2 (54 points).

The win was Terry Ruskowski's 449th career coaching victory.

Laredo (16-3 at home) trailed by scores of 2-0, 3-1, and 5-4 before winning in the shootout.

Matt Summers scored the game-winning goal in the sixth round of the sudden death shootout to give the Bucks the win. Jeff Bes and Andrew Desjardins also scored in the shootout for Laredo.

The Bucks trailed 4-3 to start the third period, but tied the game at 4-4 just 58 seconds into the third, when Igor Agarunov scored his second goal of the game-his fifth of the season, off of a slap shot from the right circle. Paul Elliott and Summers picked up assists.

The Sundogs (20-9-4) re-took the lead at 5-4 just 32 seconds later when Karl Sellan scored from the left hash mark of the slot, off of a pass from Oliver Latendresse.

Laredo tied the game just 20 seconds later, as Rane Carnegie picked up a loose puck at the bottom of the right circle, and sent it by Sundogs goaltender Andrew Gallant.

Bucks goaltender John Ceci, who was making his debut for Laredo, stopped all six Sundogs shots in overtime, to send the game into a shootout. Ceci stopped 27 of 32 Arizona shots to pick up the win.

Arizona jumped out in front just 2:06 into the game, as Tyler Redenbach scored his 15th goal of the season. Alex Leavitt sent a pass from the right circle to Redenbach, who was waiting at the left side of the crease to tip it by Bucks goaltender John Ceci.

The Sundogs made it 2-0 at the 15:07 mark when Leavitt scored from the left crease off of a quick pass from Redenbach.

The Bucks cut the Sundogs lead in half to 2-1 with 3:49 left in the first period when Igor Agarunov sent a slap shot from the point past Sundogs goaltender Andrew Gallant. It was Agarunov's sixth goal of the season, with Jeff Bes picking up the assist

The Bucks were outshot in the first 20 minutes 8-7.

Laredo killed off two Arizona power-plays in the first period.

Arizona increased their lead to 3-1 just 2:07 into the second period, as Oliver Latendresse scored from the slot past Ceci.

The Bucks then scored two straight goals to tie the game at 3-3.

Laredo made it 3-2 at 6:54 of the period as Andrew Desjarins scored his 13th goal of the season. Desjardins sent a slap shot from the left circle on the power-play past Gallant. Bes and James Hiebert picked up assists.

The Bucks tied the game at 3-3 at the 11:51 mark of the period, as Serge Dube tipped in a shot from the right crease by Gallant. It was Dube's sixth goal of the season, with Bes and Desjaridins picking up assists.

Arizona re-took the lead 4-3 at the 14:14 mark as Leavitt scored from the left crease off oa nice need from Redenbach.

This was the last meeting of the regular season between the Bucks and Sundogs, with Laredo posting a 3-1 record. Three of the four games were one-goal games, with the Bucks winning all three.

The Bucks are back in action Saturday night when they host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the LEC. Game time is 7:30pm, get your tickets by calling 718-BUCK (2825). The Mudbugs have won 12 straight games heading into Saturday's showdown.
