Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - In a unique collaboration, the Charleston RiverDogs will participate and host The Community Enhancement Coalition's presentation of "Advancing the Conversation," the second event in the state-level process for developing the Quality of Community Life Initiative in South Carolina.
The Quality of Community Life Initiative involves bringing diverse leaders and citizens together at both the state and county level to establish a culture of collaboration and shape key contributors to the quality of community life. Particular attention is paid to advancing diversity and inclusion and translating them into social and economic value. The initiative hopes to accomplish this by presenting four annual conference events, each representing a different step in the issues-management process.
This installment of "Advancing the Conversation" conference represents the second event in the state-level issues-management process and will take place at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Saturday, June 11, beginning at 10 am and running until the RiverDogs take the field and host the Asheville Tourists.
The RiverDogs are participating in cooperation with the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, the Institute of Community Development at the College of Charleston, Denny's Corporation, and other members of the Community Enhancement Coalition.
"The RiverDogs are proud to participate and host this innovative, social awareness initiative," said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. "There have always been discussions about discussions regarding 'what needs to be done in our community,' however this gathering of local, state and national executives will absolutely advance the conversation and become truly ground breaking in the effort to improve the quality of community life."
"Advancing the Conversation" will consist of brief presentations, discussion groups and activities that examine and acknowledge the challenges and opportunities of being a diverse society. The program coincides with the RiverDogs' annual celebration of the Negro Leagues and salute to Hall of Famer Larry Doby, the first African-American to play in the American League and who was signed by Bill Veeck, the Hall of Fame owner and father of Mike Veeck, the RiverDogs' president emeritus.
Closing statements for the conference are set for 4 pm and a pregame social and activities are slated until the game begins at 6:05 pm.
Invitees may bring a guest to the pregame social and activities in addition to the game, courtesy of Denny's. Additional discounted tickets may be purchased for family members and guests.
