
RiverDogs Sting GreenJackets; 4-3

CHARLESTON, SC - Garrison Lassiter smashed his first home run of the season as the RiverDogs stung the GreenJackets, 4-3, in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of 3,839 fans at Augusta's Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With the victory, the RiverDogs improve their second half record to 16-24 (55-55 overall) while the GreenJackets slip to 23-17 in the second half (58-51 overall).
The GreenJackets jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first when Juan Perez lined a double to left and advanced to third on Francisco Peguero's single. Josh Mazzola lifted a sacrifice fly to right that plated Perez for the game's first run.
Charleston knotted the game at 1-1 in the second when Lassiter smacked a two-out solo blast over the right field wall for his first home run of the season.
The RiverDogs seized a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Abraham Almonte laced a leadoff triple to right and scampered home on Corban Joseph's RBI single.
Charleston added to its lead in the seventh when Taylor Grote slapped a leadoff single up the middle and sprints home on Ray Kruml's RBI double. Following a groundout that advanced Kruml to third, Addison Maruszak lined a RBI single to center that drove home Kruml and made the score 4-1.
Augusta cut into the RiverDogs lead and made the score 4-3 in the home half of the seventh when Ehire Adrianza reached on a fielder's choice and dashed to third on James Simmons' double. Matthew Kilmas lifted a sacrifice fly to right that knocked home Adrianza while Simmons advanced to third. Vladimir Frias added a RBI double that plated Simmons.
RiverDogs starter Trent Lare (1-2) earned the victory after he tossed seven full frames and allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. Closer Jonathan Ortiz (SV, 8) received the save after shutting down the final 2.0 scoreless innings as he rendered Augusta hitless with two strikeouts.
GreenJackets starter Andrew Reichard (2-3) suffered the defeat after he was charged with two earned runs on five hits while striking out three in 5.0 stanzas.
The RiverDogs and GreenJackets each ratcheted eight hits apiece as Almonte paced Charleston with two base knocks while Peguero and Simmons each collected a pair for Augusta.
Charleston has yet to announce its starter for Game 4 of the five-game set while the GreenJackets are scheduled to send right-hander Mike Loree (7-7, 4.30 ERA), with first pitch set for Friday at 7:05 p.m.
