Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - The Tourists and Hot Rods played a doubleheader Thursday night to make up for Wednesday's rainout, with Asheville taking game one 6-1 and Bowling Green eking out a victory in game two, 2-1. The Tourists got great outings from each of their starters Thursday, with Parker Frazier earning his ninth win in game one, and Alan DeRatt throwing four solid innings in his second start for Asheville in game two.
Asheville picked up a 2-0 lead in game one in the bottom of the second inning when Scott Robinson singled to right field with the bases loaded. The ball caromed off right fielder Jason Corder, allowing two runs to score.
The Hot Rods cut the score to 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI base hit for Jeremy Beckham, but the Tourists put the game out of reach in their next two turns at bat.
Asheville plated four runs between the fifth and sixth innings to make it 6-1, highlighted by RBI hits for Jimmy Cesario, Delta Cleary, and Jordan Pacheco to seal the deal. Frazier threw 6.0 innings, allowing just an unearned run on five hits, three walks, and five strikeouts.
Game Two was more of a defensive battle, as the Tourists had to deal with Bowling Green left-hander Matt Moore. Moore was as good as advertised, going 5.0 innings and allowing just a run on one hit and three walks while striking out nine batters.
Alan DeRatt got the start for the second time this season and delivered three 1-2-3 innings in his 4.0 frames of work. His only hiccup came in the top of the third, when he allowed a run on three hits, including the RBI single by Tim Beckham that put the Hot Rods ahead 1-0.
Asheville scratched a run across on Moore in the bottom of the fifth when Tyler Massey led off with a double down the right-field line for the first Tourists hit of the game. Beau Seabury sacrificed Massey to third, and after a strikeout by Patrick Rose, Massey scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
Shane Lindsay came on and worked a solid fifth inning for the Tourists, but got into trouble in the sixth. Tim Beckham led off with a line drive to center field, and Scott Robinson made a sliding effort to catch it. Home plate umpire Jay Pierce called it a catch, but reversed the call following a collaboration with base umpire Matt Cumbee. It went for a single and Kyeong Kang followed with a base hit of his own to put runners on the corners. After a groundout, Isaias Velasquez lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Hot Rods ahead, 2-1.
Bowling Green closer Josh Satow came on and allowed a hit but struck out pinch-hitter Kiel Roling for the final out of the ball game.
The Tourists (24-14) and Hot Rods (21-17) will close out this four-game series Friday night at 7:05 with a matchup between Asheville RHP Juan Nicasio (6-1, 1.88) and Bowling Green RHP Chris Andujar (9-3, 2.92).
