Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - The Intimidators bats broke out in a big way on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park, as Kannapolis trounced West Virginia, 12-2.

Kenny Williams led the offensive charge, finishing 4-for-5 with four RBIs. He reached in all five of his plate appearances and has reached safely in eight straight trips to the dish.

Williams drove in three to get the big offensive night going with a bases-loaded double in the second inning. Kannapolis plated four runs in the frame against Power starter Quinton Miller (1-3) and never looked back.

The rout was on after the fifth when Kannapolis tallied six runs to make it a 12-1 contest. Josh Phegley's fifth home run jump-started the frame, but Williams, Sergio Morales and Jon Gilmore all added RBIs to put the game out of reach.

Nevin Griffith (2-3) was the beneficiary of the big offensive night. The right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, in six innings to take his first victory in a start since joining the Intimidators after the All-Star break.

Miller survived just three innings before giving way to Noah Krol. The reliever did not fare much better, giving up seven runs, three earned, on seven hits in three innings. Ryan Kelly finished the night with three scoreless out of the bullpen.

Dylan Axelrod and Kyle Bellamy took the reins from Griffith and did not allow a run. Bellamy struck out a deflated West Virginia side in the ninth to bring the game to a close.
