Steve Brown's bases-loaded triple in the eighth inning broke open a close game as the Lexington Legends defeated the Greenville Drive 10-5 in Greenville Thursday night.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Brown hit his fourth home run of the year.

But with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the third, the Drive generated a four-run rally on five consecutive hits, including RBI doubles by Ty Weeden and Kade Keowen.

The Legends came back in the top of the fifth when Brian Pellegrini hit his 19th home run of the year after Albert Cartwright had walked. It was Pellegrini's 40th home run as a Legend, adding to his own record, and it cut Greenville's lead to one at 4-3.

Lexington took a 5-4 lead in the sixth. Andy Simunic and Pellegrini reached base on walks, and both came around to score on Michael Diaz' double to deep right center field.

Each team scored a run in the seventh inning, leaving the score at 6-5 Lexington as the Legends came to bat in the eighth. A walk to Brandon Wikoff, a single by Pellegrini and a walk to Diaz set the stage for Brown, who hit a drive to the wall in right center, clearing the bases and giving the Legends a 9-5 margin. Brown later scored on a single by Reinaldo Pestana to close out the scoring.

Brad Dydalewicz (7-4) pitched the first five innings to get the victory. Greenville reliever Lance McClain (2-2) was the losing pitcher. The series concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday night.
