Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - There has not been a game this series that has not been interesting in the ninth inning. On Thursday, the Snappers entered the ninth down by four. With rally caps on, Marcos Rivera hit his third home run of the season which cut the lead in half. The comeback came up short as the Beloit Snappers (28-35) fell 5-3 to the Quad Cities River Bandits.
The Snappers scored first in the bottom of the first. Griffin Conine knocked in his 56th RBI of the season. He ranks second in all Minor League Baseball in RBI.
M.D. Johnson started on the hill for the Snappers. He threw seven innings of one-run baseball in the process of striking out three. The only run Johnson surrendered came on a sacrifice-fly from Tucker Bradley.
The River Bandits opened the door in the ninth inning, scoring four runs on four hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. The four-run deficit held up, but not without a fight. Dustin Skelton singled, Rivera homered, and Connor Scott singled bringing the tying run to the plate. River Bandits closer Christian Cosby ended the game by inducing two flyouts.
Beloit's Top Performers: Skelton finished the night 3-for-4 with a run scored, Rivera hit his third home run of the season in a 2-for-4 effort, and Johnson threw seven innings and a quality start in his second outing with the Snappers.
The Snappers square off with the Quad Cities River Bandits again on Thursday for their final series at Pohlman Field before moving into ABC Supply Stadium downtown beginning August 3.
