Albany River Rats News Release

Albany, NY - The Albany River Rats today announced that Friday's game has been designated as the second annual Go Red For Women Night to support the American Heart Association's efforts to draw attention to the effect of heart disease on women. All fans wearing red to the 7:00pm contest on February 11th against the Portland Pirates will receive a special discount of $4 off adult or $3 off children's regular-price tickets at the Pepsi Arena Box Office.

"We want to thank the River Rats for promoting the Go Red For Women campaign at the game and at our community outreach efforts again this year," said Michael Gunther, Walk Manager for the Albany, NY office of the American Heart Association. "Their efforts are instrumental in helping us educate women about heart health and empowering them to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease."

Women in attendance will also receive an information sheet featuring important facts about heart health, and a "Red Dress" sticker, the symbol of the Go Red For Women program. The Go Red For Women campaign was launched nationally in 2004 as a call to action for women to take charge of their own health. Studies show that women fear their "worst enemy" is breast cancer, yet cardiovascular disease (CVD) claims more than ten times as many women as breast cancer. The program encourages women to make positive changes in their lives and to help them reduce their risk of heart disease.

The Albany River Rats, in their 12th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
