River Cats To Name Puglia Award Winners Tomorrow At Raley Field

Sacramento River Cats News Release


The River Cats will announce the winners of this year's Robert K. Puglia Awards prior to the team's game Monday (7:05 p.m.) at Raley Field. Local high school baseball and softball athletes from Division I, Division II and Division III will be recognized for their efforts during the 2003 season. Checks totaling $1,200 will be donated to the winners' schools in their names.

The winners will be named during a pregame ceremony (6:30-6:50 p.m.). At 5:30 p.m., all 50 high school athletes nominated for the awards will participate in a "Chalk Talk" with River Cats pitcher Mike Wood. The "Chalk Talk" will be held in the seating area behind home plate.

Previous Puglia Award winners include J.P. Howell and Kelly Anderson. Howell is currently a pitcher for the University of Texas and was a key member of the Longhorns' College World Series team this year. Anderson currently pitches for the University of California, Berkeley.
