Beavers Miss Golden Opportunity

Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Jason Ellison and Clay Bellinger both hit 12th-inning solo home runs to lift the Fresno Grizzlies to a 5-3 win over the Portland Beavers in front of 7,906 humans and 493 dogs at Sunday afternoon's "Bark in the Park."
The loss was particularly costly for the Beavers (57-59), who could have moved to within two games of division-leading Edmonton in the Pacific Coast League North Division. Both the Trappers and second-place Salt Lake suffered one-run losses Sunday afternoon.
Matt Hampton allowed both home runs in the 12th and fell to 0-3.
Joe Horgan got the win in relief for Fresno and Manny Aybar picked up his 14th save with a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th.
The Grizzlies (45-70) broke a tie game in the fourth on an RBI single by Guillermo Rodriguez. Yamid Haad's fourth homer in eight games knotted things at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh and neither team was able to capitalize in regulation.
Rodriguez led the Grizzlies with three hits.
For the second day in a row, the Grizzlies got to the Beavers early with a pair of first-inning runs. Todd Linden homered off the batters eye in center field against Dennis Tankersley, scoring Tony Torcato.
The Beavers loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the first and tied the game on a two-run single to right by Alex Fernandez, who was 4-for-5 on the day. Bernie Castro doubled and had three hits for the Beavers, who remain in third place in their division.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Tankersley struck out five and gave up three runs (two earned) over six innings of work for the Beavers. Jeff Urban allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings for Fresno.
NOTES: Through ticket sales for Sunday's "Bark in the Park," the Beavers raised $2,500 for the Charlie Fund, a special program that provides monetary assistance for abused animals ... the Beavers are 13-10 in day games and 3-4 in extra-inning games ... the Beavers announced Sunday that infielder Keith Lockhart has completed his rehab assignment with the club and is expected to rejoin the San Diego Padres early this week .... Lockhart batted .182 (2-for-11) in four games with Portland in his tune-up after a strained lower back injury ... Fresno's Cody Ransom was ejected in the top of the fourth after a disagreement following a strikeout in the inning.
