Sacramento River Cats News Release
EL PASO, TX - In a seesaw final two frames, the Sacramento River Cats (28-29) came out on top 8-4 thanks to five runs in the ninth to win their third straight over the El Paso Chihuahuas (27-30).
For the River Cats, it was the first time this season that they'd won a game when trailing entering the ninth inning.
After five scoreless from right-hander Taylor Hill, who was making his River Cats debut, Jose Flores and Manny Parra combined to allow four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, sending the Chihuahuas to the ninth with a 4-3 lead. But second baseman Chase d'Arnaud led off the top of the inning with his ninth double of the year to kickstart a rally that featured four hits and a gift courtesy of an El Paso fielding error as five runs crossed the plate.
Catcher Trevor Brown's single plated the tying run while center fielder Steven Duggar's second hit of the night put Sacramento ahead. The big blow came when a groundball toward short from third baseman Ryder Jones got by Javy Guerra and was ruled an error, allowing two more River Cats to score.
In the finale of this five-game series, the River Cats will send to the mound right-hander Casey Kelly (5-4, 5.65), who will be looking to build upon back-to-back stellar outings. For the Chihuahuas, it will be left-hander Dillon Overton (1-2, 3.51). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
- The club would have finished the game without an extra-base hit for first time since May 21 had it not been for Chase d'Arnaud's ninth-inning double - his third hit of the evening. For d'Arnaud, it's his team-leading seventh three-hit game of the season.
- Saturday night's victory helped the River Cats match their season-high three-game road winning streak, which they had previously set in Fresno when they took the final three games of the four-game set.
