TACOMA, Wash. - A sensational Triple-A debut from starting pitcher Darren McCaughen and a three-RBI night for catcher Mike Marjama lifted the Tacoma Rainiers (28-28) to a 4-1 victory over the Salt Lake Bees (33-23) Friday night at Cheney stadium.

McCaughan (1-0) was dominant, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings against the best hitting offense in affiliated baseball and striking out three batters along the way.

Rainiers reliever Darin Gilles (S, 1) notched his first save of the season by allowing just one run across 2.2 innings of relief Friday night.

Marjama (2x4, 3 RBI, 2B), first baseman Daniel Vogelbach (1x3, 2 R, BB, 2B) and third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (1x3, R, BB) powered the Rainiers offense during the victory.

The Rainiers took an early lead in the bottom of the first when center fielder John Andreoli scored on a fielding error by Salt Lake and Marjama lined an RBI single to left to score Vogelbach and make it 2-0 Tacoma.

Marjama doubled the Tacoma advantage to 4-0 with a two-RBI double to left field in the third that scored Vogelbach and third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean.

Salt Lake pulled a run back in the top of the ninth with an RBI double off the bat of Nolan Fontana to make it 4-1.

The Rainiers and Bees return to Cheney Stadium Saturday night at 5:05 p.m. for game four of the current five-game series. Right-hander Felix Pena (0-2, 4.94) will get the start for Salt Lake and Tacoma has yet to announce a starter.
