Tucson, Ariz. - Chris Carter led the Cats offense with two doubles and three RBIs Monday night, as Sacramento hung on to defeat the Tucson Padres at Kino Stadium, 5-4.

The River Cats were in control most of the night, taking a 5-3 lead into the ninth inning. Tucson rallied in the final frame, scoring a run on a Brad Davis one-out triple and getting the tying run to third with just one out, but Cats reliever Neil Wagner induced a lineout and a strikeout, earning his first save of the season and giving Sacramento its third-straight victory.

Fabio Castro started for Sacramento but did not figure in the decision, hurling four innings and giving up two runs on four hits. Three River Cats relievers-Justin Souza, Evan Scribner and Wagner-combined to hold Tucson to just two runs the rest of the way, with Souza (1-1) earning the victory.

The loss fell to T-Pads starter Matt Palmer (0-1), who struck out five in five innings, allowing three runs-all earned-and walking just one.

Carter led the offensive attack for the River Cats, finishing two-for-four with two doubles and three RBIs, raising his batting average to .421. Jeff Fiorentino, hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season, tripled and scored in the first, and Adam Rosales added a pair of singles for the Cats out of the nine-spot.

Sacramento battles Tucson again Tuesday night, as the Cats send Opening Day starter RHP Travis Banwart (0-0, 10.38 ERA) to the mound against Padres RHP Joe Wieland (0-1, 4.76 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Kino Stadium.

The River Cats open the 2012 home slate on April 13 at 7:05 p.m. against the Reno Aces, in a rematch of the 2011 PCL Pacific Conference championship series.
