Oklahoma City, Okla. - Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie knocked in two runs on a fifth inning, two-out single and led the Oklahoma City RedHawks (5-1) to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Sounds (1-5) before 2,946 Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
RedHawks starter Paul Clemens (1-1) allowed one unearned run and five hits with one walk and four strikeouts in five innings for the winning decision. Clemens dealt 82 pitches with 52 strikes. Top Milwaukee Brewers prospect Wily Peralta allowed only an infield hit in the first four innings, before giving up a pair of runs in the fifth inning in the losing decision. Peralta walked four with six strikeouts.
Lowrie played five innings, and knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth inning before leaving the game. He is expected to start again for Oklahoma City in Wednesday's game as he continues his rehabilitation assignment for a sprained right thumb.
Nashville opened the scoring with an unearned run in the second inning against Clemens. Corey Patterson led off with a single, moved to third on a sacrifice and throwing error and scored on a Martin Maldonado sacrifice fly for a 1-0 score.
The RedHawks broke through against Peralta in the fifth inning. Landon Powell drew a one-out walk, moved to second on a Scott Moore walk and to third on a J.B. Shuck fielder's choice. After Shuck moved to second on a wild pitch, Jed Lowrie singled in Powell and Shuck for a 2-1 RedHawks lead.
Oklahoma City added three insurance runs in the seventh inning. Landon Powell singled and J.B. Shuck later walked with two out before pinch-hitter Justin Ruggiano doubled in both for a 4-1 score. On the next pitch, Fernando Martinez doubled in Ruggiano, extending his hitting streak to six games, and opened a 5-1 RedHawks lead.
