Sacramento Holds off Tucson

April 10, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

Tucson's ninth inning rally fell short Monday, and the Padres lost to Sacramento, 5-4. Trailing by two runs, Sawyer Carroll reached on a one-out single to left in the bottom of the ninth. Brad Davis, who had homered two innings before, then smashed a triple to right-center, scoring Carroll. With the tying run at third base, Sacramento brought the infield in and Beamer Weems lined out to a leaping Adam Rosales at shortstop. Sacramento's closer Neil Wagner then struck out Anthony Contreras to leave Davis at third and end the game.

Matt Palmer made his Tucson Padres debut Monday and threw five innings, allowing three earned runs. The Padres weren't able to capitalize on the wildness of Sacramento starter Fabio Castro, who walked three and allowed four hits in four innings of work. The Padres left four runners on base when Castro was in the game, including leaving the bases loaded in the first inning.

Blake Tekotte led off Tucson's first inning with a home run, his first of the season. The Padres scored on an RBI single by Daniel Robertson in the third. Robertson went 2-for-3 and is now hitting .400 through the first five games of the season. The Padres are now 1-4, while the defending Division Champion River Cats move to 4-1.
