TACOMA, Wash. - Anthony Vasquez's strong start steered the Rainiers to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Cheney Stadium on Monday night.
Vasquez (1-0) allowed only one hit over 7.0 innings, a home run to Sky Sox second baseman Brandon Wood in the third, en route to picking up a win in his 2012 debut. The left-hander walked just one batter and fanned five in the outing.
Third baseman Vinnie Catricala powered the Rainiers on offense, collecting a season-high three hits and driving in three runs on Monday. Catricala cleared the way for the Rainiers first run of the evening with an RBI-single in the first, and then scored two more with a fly ball single in the sixth.
Left fielder Johan Limonta turned in the Rainiers other multi-hit effort after going 2-for-4 against the Sky Sox. Designated hitter Luis Jimenez accounted for the other Rainiers run with a single that scored Catricala in the first inning.
Colorado Springs starter Alex White (0-1) was left with the loss, surrendering a pair runs on three hits and fanning two over a 3.1 inning start.
