New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs shut out the Memphis Redbirds, 2-0 on Tuesday night at Zephyr Field.

Luke Montz started a second-inning rally with a leadoff walk followed with a single from Bryan Petersen to right field. With two out, Gil Velazquez singled to right field, easily scoring Montz to give the Z's an early 1-0 lead.

A leadoff double by Kevin Mattison and walk from Montz put two runners on in the bottom of the third. Petersen scored Mattison with a single to center field to tack another run onto the New Orleans lead.

Petersen and Velazquez each went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

New Orleans starter Alex Sanabia (1-0) recorded his first win by pitching seven innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six. After working out of a jam in the first inning, allowing back-to-back singles with one out, Sanabia retired 20 of the next 22 batters he faced.

Memphis starter Brandon Dickson (1-1) took the loss, allowing nine hits and two earned runs over six innings.

Dan Jennings struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning, and Sandy Rosario notched his second save of the season with two strikeouts to end the game.

The Zephyrs will resume the series Wednesday at 11:30am. Left-hander Brad Hand (0-0) will take on Memphis right-hander Brian Broderick (0-1) for the third game of the series.
