The "Champions of Education" program was created for the postseason to raise much-needed money for local schools, which are looking for ways to support vital programs in a time of budget shortfalls. The River Cats will donate $1 from every ticket sold at Raley Field during the postseason. Additionally, the team has set up special fund-raising programs, giving individual schools the opportunity to raise money by selling tickets to playoff games. Schools will retain 50 percent of the cost of each ticket they sell. More than 20 schools are already participating in the program and will be using the funds to provide support for programs like athletics, music and the arts.
"We take great pleasure in being able to assist our local schools," River Cats Vice President of Sales & Marketing Tom Glick said. "The PCL Playoffs will be an exciting time for the River Cats, our fans and the Sacramento region."
The River Cats are also offering their corporate partners and other businesses the opportunity to buy groups of tickets to entertain their employees, families and customers at a playoff game. Each business that purchases a group will have the opportunity to have 50 percent of the value of each ticket donated to the school of its choice. Three of the club's corporate partners -- Comcast, SureWest Wireless and the Greater Sacramento Area State Farm Insurance agents -- have already raised more than $7,500 for education.
