Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Lyle Overbay pounded two home runs and Edgar Gonzalez earned his eighth win of the year in a 9-2 Tucson victory over Sacramento Monday night at Raley Field.

Tucson also ended Sacramento's 13-game home winning streak. The River Cats had equalled the longest home winning streak in all the minors, set earlier this year by Memphis. The Sidewinders ended the Redbirds 13-game streak on July 31 at Auto Zone Park. The Sidewinders also improved to 7-6 this year against Sacramento. The River Cats fell to 88-49 with the loss and just 19-5 in August.

Gonzalez won for the first time since July 8 in Sacramento when he improved to 7-2. Gonzalez had lost his last five decisions over seven starts even though his ERA actually dropped from 4.00 to 3.93. The right-hander went seven innings, allowing just three hits and one disputed run. Sacramento loaded the bases with no outs in the second. Chris Prieto flied out to left field. Brian Gordon's throw to the plate beat the runner Jason Grabowski however plate umpire Casey Moser called the runner safe. Al Pedrique was thrown out of the game arguing the call.

The Sidewinders scored six times in the top of the second, five unearned off River Cats starter Erik Hiljus. Overbay capped the inning with a towering three-run homer to right.

Overbay homered again off Hiljus in the top of the fifth, for his fourth homer of the season.

Tucson added two more unearned runs in the top of the ninth.

Tucson improved to 70-67. The Sidewinders and River Cats will play game three of the series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. from Raley Field. Andrew Good (3-3 4.19) will start for Tucson. The River Cats starter has not been announced.
