Ritchie Added to Western Division All-Star Roster

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 20, 2015) - Quad Cities River Bandits catcher and first baseman Jamie Ritchie has been added to the Western Division All-Star roster for Tuesday's Midwest League All-Star game at Dozer Park in Peoria, Ill. Ritchie joins two River Bandits teammates - Western Division starting catcher Jacob Nottingham and starting third baseman Nick Tanielu - on the Western Division team.

Ritchie takes the place of Wisconsin catcher Carlos Leal, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday. Ritchie is the fifth River Bandit named to the All-Star Game this season, but two of the initial four - second baseman Mott Hyde and right-handed pitcher Austin Chrismon - were promoted to Class-A Advanced Lancaster after the roster announcement by the Midwest League on June 4.

Ritchie, 22, was a 13th-round pick by the Houston Astros in the 2014 First-Year Players Draft out of Belmont (Tenn.) University. Through Friday, the Buford, Ga., native led the Midwest League with 58 bases on balls and a .441 on-base percentage. Ritchie also leads Quad Cities in runs scored (38) and is tied for the team lead in games played (55) and triples (two). Ritchie has caught 21 games - second on the River Bandits to Nottingham, who has caught 35 - and has played a team-high 26 games at first base.

Ritchie was named the Quad Cities Player of the Month for April, when he hit a team-best .344 with two doubles, one home run, and seven RBIs in 17 games, while finishing second in the Midwest League in on-base percentage (.467), fourth in OPS (.926) and sixth in batting average during the month.

From April 25 to May 28, Ritchie posted a 26-game on-base streak (hit, walk, or hit by pitch), which is the fifth-longest in the Midwest League this season and the longest by a River Bandit since Ryan Jackson's 28-game streak April 9-May 11, 2010.

Through Friday, Quad Cities was 44-22 and had clinched the best first-half record in the Midwest League for the first time in at least 28 years. The River Bandits are in the Midwest League playoffs for the fourth time in the past six seasons and will face Cedar Rapids, which finished in second place in the Western Division first half, in a best-of-three series beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: With the installation of the Ferris Wheel, the River Bandits ownership in 2014 made one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931, and this year the club is matching that effort by opening three new areas. A two-tiered special group deck immediately behind and overlooking the corn field opens next week. A new 11,000-square-foot concourse expansion down the third-base line will open in July. Finally, the club is expanding the children's play area by an additional 5,500 square feet down the right-field line. New rides will be announced upon completion of these new areas.
