London Rippers News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - An 11-hit outburst by the Washington Wild Things (12-16) was too much for London (13-16) as the Rippers fall 11-5.

Joash Brodin launched a two-out solo homer in the first that bounced off the top of the fence and into the brush, giving London a 1-0 lead.

But it was all Washington after that.

In the 3rd, the Wild Things tied the game on a fielder's choice by Rick Devereaux and brought home two more on a wild throw by Aaron Glaum, attempting a double play.

Matt Sommo (0-1) started for London and went three innings, giving up three runs and three hits, while walking three and striking out two.

Robbie Garvey smacked a two-run homer off Adam Arnold in the fifth inning, his second of the season putting Washington up 5-1.

Washington pitcher, Eric Blackwell (2-2) took over from there, retiring 14 straight before Aaron Glaum singled with two outs in the 7th .

Brodin drove home two in the 7th on a single, bringing the Rippers closer at 6-3, but in the top of the 8th, Andrew Heck put Washington back up by five with a 2-RBI single.

Two more runs on RBI groundouts for the Rippers made it 8-5; however, Washington scored three in the top of the 9th to seal the game on an RBI single by Allen Boyer and a 2-RBI single by Taylor Oldham.

London and Washington wrap up their three-game series tomorrow night at 6:30pm.

The Rippers send Matt Schimpf (2-1 3.38) up against Chris Smith (1-2 2.19).
