Last time out.

The Slammers never got rolling offensively on Sunday and dropped their series opener 5-1 to the Traverse City Beach Bums. In the top of the second, the Beach Bums secured a leadoff double from Chase Burch, and with one out, Sean Gusrang slapped an RBI single to make it 1-0. Joliet tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Erik Lis scored on a Kyle Maunus groundout with runners on the corners. Traverse City jumped ahead in the third with runners on second and third with no outs. Jose Vargas brought home Brian Heere from third on a sacrifice fly, making it 2-1.The Bums tacked on another three in the fifth inning on a run-scoring double by Vargas and a two-RBI single from Jeff Flagg. In 2011, he was the CCAC Player of the Week and the NCCAA National Player of the Week once.

Getting defensive.

After a slow start, the Slammers' defense has become one of the best in the Frontier League. They are tied for second in fielding percentage at .977 and they're also tied for the second fewest errors committed (24).

Plunked!

The Slammers' pitching staff has hit 27 batters this season, the most in the league.

Winning and losing.

The Slammers have alternated between a loss and a win over the past eight games. Their last winning streak was from May 29 through June 2 when they won five straight games.

After six.

Joliet is 8-1 when leading after six but they are 1-11 when trailing after six.

I plead the fifth.

Joliet gave up three runs in the fifth inning last night, continuing a trend. The Slammers have given up 30 runs in the fifth inning, the most they've surrendered in any frame. Overall, the Slammers have a negative run differential as they've been out-scored 132-118.

More patience.

So far in 2012 the Slammers have walked 110 times, the third most in the league. In 2011 they finished with the second fewest walks in the league.

Give me some relief!

In 43.2 IP in May, Joliet's bullpen had an era of 1.88. In 56 IP in June, they have a 5.79 ERA.

Error indicator.

The Slammers are 2-10 in games when they make an error. They are 12-4 in games when they do not.

Out-hit.

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 12-4, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 1-10.

Transaction Wire.

The Slammers placed Outfielder David Fox on the 7-Day Disabled List today and signed Outfielder Areo Regoli. They transferred RHP Michael Perconte to the 14-Day Disabled List.
