June 18, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
Evansville, Ind. - The Rascals (16-13) tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth but failed to plate the go-ahead run in the eighth, ninth, or 10th innings leading to a walk-off single from Evansville's Brett Chamberlain in the last of the 10th inning as River City lost their sixth-straight one-run game and coupled with the loss last night, have lost five-straight series since opening the season 12-3.
Solo homeruns from Chamberlain and Luis Uribe in the second inning gave the Otters (11-18) a 2-0 cushion on Rascal starter Tony Marsala before River City got him off the hook in the sixth.
The Rascals got consecutive one-out single from Curran Redal and Jeremy Synan before a wild pitch scored Redal and Synan came home with the tying run on a two-out single from Gerardo Avila.
Marsala struck out eight before giving way to Brandon Cunniff who retired two batters he inherited in the seventh before pitching a perfect eighth.
The Rascals popped into a double play when they started the runners and first and second in the eighth, left a runner at third after a lead-off walk in the ninth, and failed to score Kyle Jones who started the 10th with a walk.
Rascals closer Dustin Umberger pitched a perfect ninth before allowing the leadoff single in the 10th and the walk-off two-out single from Chamberlain.
River City will try to avoid their first sweep of the season with a 12:05 first pitch tomorrow in the final game of this three-game road series before returning home for six-straight Wednesday.
River City send Keli'i Zablan (2-2, 2.55) to the mound against the Otter's Matt Zielinski (2-2, 4.00).
