Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

JOLIET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums got a pair of homers form Kyle Colligan and backed it up with a pair of ninth inning runs to break a 3-3 tie as the Beach Bums won their fourth game in a row, a 5-3 victory over the Joliet Slammers.

With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the top of the ninth, Ryan Still got things started for the Beach Bums with a one out single. The next batter, Brian Heere, doubled into the right-centerfield gap, scoring Still to put the TC up 4-3. Two batters later, Jose Vargas singled through the left side of the infield to score Heere and make it 5-3.

Traverse City got out on the board with a pair of first inning runs, the first of which came on a Kyle Colligan homer to left. Following that, Jose Vargas was hit by a pitch, moved second on a wild pitch, took third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.

Joliet would get a run back in the fourth when Erik Lis homered, but the Beach Bums would answer on Colligan's second long ball of the game in the top of the fifth to make it 3-1 TC. The lead would last into the sixth when Hector Pellot hit a wall-scraping two-run homer that just stayed fair as well, tying the game at 3-3.

Scott Dunn (1-0) got the win with a perfect eighth inning. Scott Mueller went through the Slammers side in order in the bottom of the ninth to record his seventh save. Reid Kelly pitched well for the second straight start for the Beach Bums going seven innings allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out six. Brian Smith (1-1) took the loss for Joliet.

The series wraps up on with a morning game on Tuesday with Jason Matilla (1-1, 2.77) getting the start for Traverse City against Tommy Mendoza (3-1, 3.09) for Joliet. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 will begin at 10:45 a.m. outside of a scheduled 11:05 a.m. first pitch.
