Frisco RoughRiders News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI (June 3, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders dropped their second straight contest to the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday night, 7-2. Drew Robinson snapped a 15-game home run drought with a solo shot in the fourth inning, but the Riders offense would not score again.

The RoughRiders (21-31) jumped on the board early with a two-out rally in the second inning. Edwin Garcia doubled to deep center and scored one batter later on Trever Adams' RBI single. Luis Mendez added a single but Arturo Reyes struck out Jake Skole to leave runners on the corners.

Springfield (19-33) quickly erased the 1-0 deficit the next half inning when Bruce Caldwell knocked a two-run shot, his first home run of the season off Jose Leclerc. The Cardinals would never relinquish their lead, adding a pair of runs in the third inning on back-to-back RBI hits by Nick Martini and Breyvic Valera, to take a 4-1 advantage.

Robinson hit a towering drive to begin the fourth, cutting the Cardinals lead in half, but Frisco would not plate another run the rest of the game. Reyes (2-2) threw five innings of two-run ball, and struck out seven hitters. The Riders struck out 12 times as a team on Wednesday.

In the sixth inning, the Cardinals put the contest out of reach with three runs off Victor Payano. Patrick Wisdom hit a solo home run to make it 5-2 before Jeremy Hazelbaker drove home two with a base hit to right field. The Cardinals have won two straight against the Riders, and lead the season series 3-2. Frisco has tallied just three runs over their last 21 innings.

Frank Lopez (1-0) looks to continue his success on Thursday against Andrew Morales (3-3) at 7:10 p.m. The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on June 9 for a four-game homestand against San Antonio. The team will host a "Full House Night" with special uniforms depicting scenes from the classic '90s sitcom on Friday, June 12.
