San Antonio Missions News Release
In a thrilling, back-and-forth affair Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium, San Antonio racked up a season-high 16 hits to outslug Arkansas, 10-6.
After getting shutout by the Travs on Tuesday, the Missions bounced back Wednesday with a three-run first inning against starter Kyle McGowin. San Antonio scored all three of the runs with two-outs, beginning with a Diego Goris RBI single up the middle. Yeison Asencio followed with a two-run single to left, giving the Missions an early 3-0 lead.
Arkansas responded in the top of the third with a two-out, three-run rally of its own against right-hander Elliot Morris. Eric Stamets got the Travs on the board with a two-run homer to left, his first of the season. Three batters later, Wade Hinkle knotted the game at three with an RBI double.
San Antonio retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of a two-run dinger onto the berm in left by Hunter Renfroe. It was Renfroe's third homer of the season and his first since May 8.
Unfortunately for the Missions, Morris could not hold the lead, allowing the Travs to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth with their second straight three-run frame.
Once again, San Antonio battled back, tying the game at six in the bottom of the sixth on a Jason Hagerty RBI double to right off reliever Alan Busenitz.
Two innings later, the Missions busted out against right-hander Eduard Santos (2-1) with a go-ahead, four-run outburst. The rally began with a one-out single by Duanel Jones, who quickly moved to third when Hagerty followed with his second two-bagger of the evening. Luis Domoromo then put San Antonio up for good with a clutch single into right. Two batters later, after Arkansas brought in Kurt Spomer to replace Santos, Alberth Martinez made the score 8-6 with an RBI single of his own. Trea Turner capped the uprising with a two-run single up the middle.
Reliever Michael Dimock tossed a perfect ninth to lock up the San Antonio victory. Dimock and fellow pen members Aaron Northcraft and Brandon Alger (3-1) combined on five and a third scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
San Antonio (21-30) wraps up its three-game series against Arkansas (29-22) Thursday on Cricket Dollar Night presented by News 4 San Antonio. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. Casey Kelly (1-3, 3.27) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Travs counter with fellow righty Harrison Cooney (Double-A debut).
