June 3, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas. - Game two portrayed many of the same themes as game one of the series against the Corpus Christi Hooks (35-16) with the main motif being pitching. Right-hander J.C. Sulbaran tossed his sixth quality start of the season allowing one run over 6.0 frames of work as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (31-19) late-inning comeback fell short on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field in the 3-2 final.
Balbino Fuenmayor singled up the middle with one out in the top of the ninth inning off reliever Jandel Gustave to set the table for the rest of the order. Terrance Gore entered to pinch-run, took second on a defensive indifference and scored on Mike Bianucci's single and a throwing error by the Hooks. That is all the closer the Naturals got on Corpus Christi in the loss.
Trailing 1-0 headed into the top of the third, Naturals catcher Parker Morin blasted a Mark Appel pitched that deflected off right-fielder Teoscar Hernandez's glove to allow Morin to reach third to open up the inning. Lane Adams brought home Morin to tie the game at one run each with a sacrifice fly to center.
The Hooks plated two runs off reliever Sam Selman (1-1, 3.98) who took the loss on Wednesday night, in the eighth inning as reliever Malcom Culver ended up finishing off the inning obtaining the final two outs.
Sulbaran's final line reads 6.0 innings, seven hits, one run, one walk and three strikeouts in his no-decision effort.
The Naturals will look to cinch the series finale on Thursday night at Whataburger Field sending right-hander Luke Farrell (0-1, 4.66) to the hill against right-hander Chris Devenski (6-0, 0.59). The Naturals have won five straight series finales and have not lost since May 8 at Springfield.
