Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, TEXAS (August 5, 2015) - Chad Pinder hit a grand slam to cap a six-run second inning as the Midland RockHounds staved off a late rally to win 8-7 against the Frisco RoughRiders on Wednesday at Security Bank Ballpark. Drew Robinson hit his Texas League-leading 16th home run in the contest, his first since June 26.
The Riders dialed up the pressure with a three-run ninth inning. A pair of RBI doubles from Robinson and Alex Burg made it 8-6, and an RBI ground out from Pat Cantwell put the Riders within one run. Tucker Healy struck out Zach Cone to end the game and stranded the tying run at second base.
Baseballs were flying out of Security Bank Ballpark early and often on Wednesday. After a wild pitch and an RBI single from Bruce Maxwell gave Midland a 2-0 lead, Pinder cleared the bases with his third home run in the last two games. The slam is Pinder's second of the season, with the other coming on May 26 against Corpus Christi.
Robinson answered in the third inning with a two-out, two-run shot to make it 6-2, but, the RockHounds got a two-run blast from Maxwell in the third to retake a six-run lead.
Trailing 8-2 in the fourth inning, Trever Adams took advantage of a leadoff walk and belted his fourth home run of the season, and cut the Riders' deficit to 8-4. Adams contributed a three-hit night, his 13th multi-hit contest of the year.
Riders starter Jose Leclerc (5-6) was chased from the game in the second inning. The right-hander allowed six runs on five hits over 1 2/3 innings before Chad James was brought into the game. James allowed one hit, a two-run homer, in 1 1/3 innings. RockHounds starter Sean Manaea (2-1) scattered ten hits, allowed two home runs and struck out seven in six innings.
The RoughRiders (18-21, 47-62) return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday to begin a four game set against the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres). RHP Connor Sadzeck makes his Double-A debut for Frisco against San Antonio's RHP Ronald Herrera (1-0).
