Richmond had a huge sixth inning when they scored nine runs on their way to a 12-2 victory at Canal Park on Sunday afternoon.
Turning Point
Richmond led Akron 2-1 entering the sixth inning when they tacked on nine runs highlighted by Ricky Orepesa hitting two home runs in the inning including a grand slam.
Mound Presence
Akron right-hander Duke von Schamann struggled allowing nine hits and five earned runs in his five plus innings of work. Reliever Jacob Lee didn't record a single out but allowed five earned runs in the nine run sixth inning for Richmond. Richmond starter Joe Biagini worked in and out of trouble but only allowed one earned run in his six innings.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks managed eleven hits on the afternoon but couldn't string anything together. Outfielder Bryson Myles hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. The homer was his ninth of the season. Ronny Rodriguez had three hits that all went for doubles. Richmond first baseman Ricky Orepesa hit two home runs including a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning. This is the second consecutive day he has hit a grand slam and a solo home run. In this series alone Orepesa has gone 9-16 with 3 doubles, 5 home runs, and 13 RBI.
Notes
The RubberDucks currently lead the league in team defense and fewest errors allowed. They rank second in the Eastern League in team ERA and fewest runs allowed. In the playoff picture the RubberDucks are currently 7.5 games behind first place Bowie and 5.5 games behind second place Altoona. Richmond now has jumped Akron in the standings due to winning the head to head matchup nine games to one. Time of game was: 2:50 ...Attendance: 6,145.

The RubberDucks will open a four game series at Canal Park Monday night against the Erie SeaWolves. The game will start 7:05 with LHP Josh Turley (11-8, 3.50) starting for Erie, and RHP D.J.
