Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Fisher Cat catcher Jack Murphy ripped a tiebreaking two-run double to left in the top of the tenth to push New Hampshire past the Binghamton Mets, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets mustered one hit over the final five innings and had their four-game winning streak.

Reliever Adam Kolarek opened the tenth by allowing a pair of singles. After a sac bunt and an intentional walk filled the bases, Murphy launched the first pitch he saw over Brock Peterson's head for a one-hopper off the wall. Dwight Smith Jr. came home from third and Melky Mesa scored from second.

Blake McFarland, after stranding the potential game-winning run on second in the ninth, returned for the tenth and tossed a perfect inning, helping the Fisher Cats avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the B-Mets.

Binghamton's offense had started strong, plating three runs on five hits through four innings against Casey Lawrence. Jonathan Galvez put Binghamton on the board with an RBI double to the left-field alley in the second and Josh Rodriguez added a run-producing single in the third. Vince Belnome broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with a long solo homer, his first as a B-Met.

The B-Mets let a pair of one-run leads slip away. After Galvez's double put them up 1-0, Smith cashed in on an error by LJ Mazzilli in the third and zipped a two-run single into left. The Fisher Cats trailed again following Belnome's blast, but tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Murphy in the sixth.

Binghamton failed to get their offense going against the Fisher Cat bullpen. Chad Girodo took over from Lawrence in the seventh and struck out four over two scoreless innings. McFarland (3-3) fired two blank frames to earn his third win of the season against Binghamton.

Robert Gsellman allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings in the no-decision. Pitching for the first time in 11 days, the righty went more than five frames for the first time since July 24. Kolarek (2-3) took the loss in relief.

The B-Mets (73-60) open a four-game series against the first-place Fightin Phils in Reading on Monday night at 6:35 PM. LHP Steven Matz makes his second rehab appearance with Binghamton against RHP Jake Thompson. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.

POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton closed the game 1-for-18 at the plate...TJ Rivera extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double in the third...Binghamton is 2-5 in extra-inning games in 2015...the B-Mets magic number stayed at six with the defeat
