Epic Finish to Close out New Britain Stadium, 'Cats Win 7-5 in 15

New Britain, Conn. - The final game in the history of New Britain Stadium did not disappoint. Jordan Patterson clubbed a walk-off, two-run homer off position player Oscar Tejeda, giving the New Britain Rock Cats (63-69) a 7-5, 15-inning win on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,575 fans.
Tejeda (0-1) relieved Heri Quevedo in the 14th inning and worked out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out Pat Valaika. In the 15th, Mike Tauchman singled, but was out at second base on a bunt attempt by Will Swanner. Patterson launched his 7th homer to straight away right field.
Austin House (1-4) pitched two scoreless innings to become the final winning pitcher in the history of New Britain Stadium (opened in 1983 for the New Britain Rock Cats). Tejeda took the loss, giving up three hits and two runs over 1.1 IP.
The Rock Cats had multiple chances to win the game in extra-innings, as they had 12 baserunners in the extra frames. Both teams scored single runs in the 11th inning. Keury De La Cruz blasted a homer to right field to give Portland a 5-4 lead, but New Britain tied it in their half on a run-scoring double by Patterson.
In the 13th inning, Aneury Tavarez threw out Valaika at the plate with one out. In the eighth, Tavarez threw out the potential go-ahead run, nailing Tyler Massey on a single by Noel Cuevas.
Tavarez got the scoring started in the second inning, delivering a two-out RBI single to plate Carlos Asuaje. Justin Morneau (MLB Rehab) began his hitting display, tying the game with a double in the third, and giving New Britain a 3-1 lead with a 2-run single in the fifth.
Sam Travis would knock in three runs over two innings. Travis tied the game with a two-run homer off Shane Carle in the sixth, and gave the 'Dogs a 4-3 lead with a two-out RBI single in the seventh. New Britain tied the game in the eighth on Massey's two-out RBI hit.
Portland starter Danny Rosenbaum yielded five hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings pitched. Mike Augliera scattered four hits over two scoreless. Williams Jerez allowed one run over two innings and Quevedo tossed four innings on five hits and one run.
The Rock Cats left 18 men on base, going 7-for-24 with runners-in-scoring position. This was Portland's second longest game of the season - they played 16-innings on July 2nd against New Hampshire at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs open up the second leg of their 8-game roadtrip on Monday night against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Luis Diaz (2-10, 5.47) makes the start against New Hampshire's LHP Scott Barnes (2-6, 5.59). Pre-Game coverage begins live on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6 :35 PM .
