Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that infielder Michael Richard has joined the team from the disabled list, while fellow infielder Carlos Arrieche has been sent to extended spring training in Arizona. Richard is active and eligible to play in tonight's 6:30 p.m. game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Richard, an 11th round selection from the 2007 draft, was placed on the disabled list May 3 with a bone spur in his right thumb. In 11 games this season, Richard is batting .235 and has stolen 5 bases.
A non-drafted free agent signee by the A's in 2002, Arrieche has played in 14 games - all at third base - for the Cougars, batting .234 with 3 RBI's.
The latest roster move keeps the Cougars at 25 active players in accordance with Midwest League rules. With a 31-21 record, Kane County holds second place in the league's Western Division, three games ahead of the Beloit Snappers for the first-half wild card spot. Going into this evening's contest, the Cougars have 17 remaining games before the season's first half concludes.
Kane County ace Craig Italiano, who is 6-0 with a minor-league leading 0.72 ERA, takes the hill this evening against the Timber Rattlers for a 6:30 p.m. matchup. The nine-game homestand concludes tomorrow evening with a post-game fireworks show and a first-time appearance by entertainer Dave The Horn Guy.
