Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - After a 40-minute rain delay at the start of the night and a 3-hour, 45-minute marathon, the Kane County Cougars wrapped up a victory with a 4-2 finish against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 7,991 at Elfstrom Stadium. Craig Italiano improved to 7-0, and four different players had two hits, as the Cougars took Game 3 of the four-game set and are now in line to win the series. The Cougars never trailed in the game, as Adam Klein scored on an error in the third, and Larry Cobb singled home Jonathan Johnston against Donnie Hume (4-1) to make it 2-0 early. Then Michael Richard, who was activated from the disabled list before the game, notched a sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 3-0 count.

That score remained until the eighth, thanks in part to five innings of one-hit shutout work from Italiano (7-0), who hasn't allowed an earned run in 40 1/3 innings. He walked two, hit two batters and struck out five to pick up the victory. Brad Hertzler took over afteward and pitched a pair of scoreless frames before yielding two in the eighth. The Cougars countered with an RBI groundout in the bottom half from pinch-hitter Michael Lissman to make it 4-2, and Nick Walters closed out the Rattlers in the ninth for his third save.

The finale of the four-game series is Saturday night at 6 CT. Jamie Richmond (4-3, 3.21) will pitch for the Cougars (32-21) against Juan Ramirez (3-3, 3.51) for Wisconsin (22-28).
