Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - A first inning run for the Lansing Lugnuts held up as they shutout the Great Lakes Loons 1-0 in front of 5,227 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The win coupled with West Michigan's loss to Dayton gives Lansing sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division with 16 games remaining in the first half.
The only run of the game happened when Justin Jackson led the affair off with a double and later scored on Matt Liuzza's groundout to the left side of the infield.
Each team used just two hurlers to get through the game.
Marc Rzepczynski (1-1) threw five innings and scattered seven hits, as he stranded four runners in scoring position. Rzepczynski picked up his first win of the year as he also struck out six batters.
Edgar Estanga finished it off for Lansing, earning his third save, by tossing the final four innings and allowing just three hits. He was threatened in the ninth, but right-fielder Moises Sierra threw Alfredo Silverio out at the plate as he tried to score from second base on a single.
Bobby Blevins (2-4) took the tough-luck loss for the Loons after allowing just one run over six frames of work. He struck out a career high 10 batters.
John Tolisano was the offensive highlight for the Lugnuts, as he went 3-for-3 and finished a homer shy of the cycle. He also had three of Lansing's four hits, as the Lugnuts were outhit 10-4 in the contest.
Lansing (29-25) and Great Lakes (25-28) will finish the series on Saturday night. Lefty Brad Mills (3-2, 2.98) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while right-hander Kyle Smit (1-3, 6.14) will pitch for the Loons.
