RHP Guerra Recalled to Dodgers, RHP Wall Returns to Isotopes
April 30, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled RHP Javy Guerra today, April 30. RHP Josh Wall joins the Isotopes today after being optioned to Albuquerque today. He was originally recalled to Los Angeles on April 15. RF Alex Castellanos was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 29 with right forearm inflammation. IF Ozzie Martinez has also been activated from the disabled list today.
The call-up will mark Guerra's third stint with the big league club. The Texas native was used as the Dodgers' primary closer in 2011 collecting a team-high 21 saves. In his two-year Major League career, the righty is 4-5 with a 2.45 ERA (25 ER/91.2 IP), collecting 75 strikeouts in 92 appearances with the Dodgers. He held opponents to a .241 batting average (81-for-336) with the Los Angeles, 14 points lower than his career Minor League opponent's average (.259).
Guerra was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft and made his Major League Debut on May 15, 2011 at Dodger Stadium against Arizona. The 6-foot-1 hurler holds a 0-2 record with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, posting a 4.02 ERA (7 ER/15.2 IP) in four starts. His last outing on April 26 was his longest of the season, tossing five innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits, but suffered the loss.
RHP Josh Wall rejoins the Isotopes after starting the season in Albuquerque. The 2012 Pacific Coast Leader in saves (28) appeared in six contests for the Dodgers in 2013 and finished four games. In six appearances with Los Angeles after being recalled earlier in the month, Wall posted a 0-1 record with an 18.00 ERA (14ER/7.0IP). Seven of those earned runs came in two innings of yesterday's 12-2 Dodgers loss. The Louisiana native picked up a save with Albuquerque this season and boasts a 2.08 ERA (1 ER/4.1 IP). He has appeared in four games and struck out five batters and walked three.
In 21 games with the Topes this season, Castellanos is hitting .304 (24-for-79) and is second on the club with four home runs (tied with OF Chili Buss), 14 RBI and eight stolen bases. IF Ozzie Martinez has played in two games for Albuquerque this season and is 1-for-6.
The Topes take on the Memphis Redbirds tonight at 6:35 PM from Isotopes Park. RHP Blake Johnson (2-1, 5.40) is slated to start for Albuquerque against RHP Tyler Lyons (2-1, 3.28). Albuquerque took game one 2-1 in walk-off fashion in the ninth last night. Listen to all of the action as Josh Suchon has the call on 610AM.
